This figure I scuplted in Jan-Feb of 04. It took me a solid week of sculpting and another week to paint. It is, to date, one of my best pieces and won 1st place in it's division at the Region 7 IMPS/OHMS Model Show. Aside from epoxy putty, I used styrene and steel and copper wire, and resin castings of previously sculpted components (to save time). All can be seen in the sequence of in progress shots.

This pic shows the painted piece not long after completion.
Here we see the humble beginnings of a new head. A simple paperclip curled into a circle.
The next step is a wad of epoxy putty shaped around the paperclip.
Here, basic detail has been sculpted, and then, after the putty has cured, other detail is carved.
Sculpting of facial detail has begun. The face is starting to develop it's "personality".
More detail added.
The face is largely done. The eyes have been started, the nose still requires some fine detail, but it is ready to mount on the torso. This is the best stage to do the eyes, after mounting to the torso, because the head, in relation to the rest of the body, determines how to sculpt the eyes.
The basic hair detail, moustache, and cadenettes are done.
Armature is fleshed out and ready for clothing.
Clothing is done and the fleshed out arms are in place. I always do the arms separately as sleeves will always behave separately from the rest of the coat.
The major sculpting is done. Still a few fine details to add, but the work is more or less finished.

Close-up of the torso, showing the copper and steel wire used for the lacework. I braided that copper wire my self.
