What's new

These are a few pics of some models I've made over the years. RP stands for Rapid Prototype and is the catch-all term most frequently used to refer to design/prototype modeling, within the industry. it is also used specifically in reference to SLA/SLS.

This model was made using cores, sans rubber, built on an SLA machine and finished out to a ready for paint point. SLA patterns were also made of the two halves as they would appear with the rubber in place and molded up, then the finished cores were placed within the mold and the rubber was cast around the cores. The process is known as overmolding. The core is called the Co-mold and the rubber sections are called the Overmold.

Logitech Netcam base. This piece, like all rubberized models I do, was cast in a soft durometer polyurethan resin. Durometer is the measurement of hardness. There are two catagories for measurement, Shore A and Shore D. A covers the soft plastics and rubbers, while D covers the hard plastics. A particular plastic is rated on a 1-100 scale within the pertinent catagory. A plastic can be low on the D scale, but verge on the hard side of the A scale, yet still be hard enough to rank in the D scale. Same for the high side of the A scale. For most overmold and rubber models, we used a product that yielded a Shore A rating of about 70 or 80. 60 and 90A were also common. For hard plastics 60D was the most common, along with 80D.

This piece was about 80A.

This is another model cast in urethane rubber. It was intended to test the fit of a design for a watch that was being developed. I believe this model evolved from the Triax series and led to the Triax Speed Super. Most of these models have long since been released and dropped from the product line in favor of newer designs.
